ALA Golden Gate Chapter Community Service Challenge

Apr. 26, 2021

Welcome to the ALA Golden Gate Chapter’s Community Service Challenge!

The ALA Golden Gate Chapter Community Service Challenge allows chapter members and business partners to earn points by volunteering in the community, or by donating to non-profit organizations. Here’s how it works:

Volunteer activities and donations will be self-reported through THIS FORM. The program will be run on the honor system, you do not need to provide donation receipts, but all activities must be reported in accordance with the below schedule to qualify for quarterly prizes.  Points will be awarded as follows:

  • Every 1 hour of volunteering = 5 points
  • Every $10 donation to a non-profit = 1 point
  • Non-monetary donations, such as food, toys, clothing, etc. = 1 point
  • Point values are doubled for participation in ALA Golden Gate Chapter Community Connections events.
  • Other activities - if you are not sure if something counts for points, input it in the tracker and the Community Service Co-Chairs will access the activity and assign a point value.
  • Here’s an example of how the points system works:
    • April 1 - spent 2 hours collecting litter in my neighborhood = 10 points
    • April 15 - donated $100 to the SF Marin Food Bank = 10 points
    • May 6 - spent 2 hours volunteering at the SF Marin Food Bank during ALA Golden Gate Chapter Food From The Bar campaign (double points) = 20 points
    • June 25 - spent 1 hour serving food for Food Is Free group = 5 points
    • Quarterly Total = 45 points
