Beyond the Buzz: A Practical Playbook for Law Firm AI

Series Description: AI is changing how law firms operate, but buying a tool isn't the same as adopting a technology. This five-session series gives professional staff a practical framework for evaluating readiness, building governance, and identifying the use cases that actually move the needle in their departments.

Each session is role-specific, so whether you work in IT, finance, marketing, HR, or firm leadership, you'll leave with priorities you can act on, not just concepts you've heard of.

Learning Objectives: After completing this series, participants will be able to:

- Describe key trends in AI adoption within law firm operations and administration.
- Evaluate their organization's readiness for AI implementation using surveys, audits, and internal assessments.
- Identify governance components necessary for responsible AI use, including policies, guidelines, and oversight practices.
- Recognize practical AI use cases across law firm administrative departments.
- Apply an impact-versus-effort framework to prioritize AI initiatives and develop a preliminary AI implementation plan for their organization.

Thursday April 23 - Session 1: Smart Start: Building a Responsible IT Foundation.     LINK TO REGISTER

Before a firm can adopt AI effectively, it needs to understand where it actually stands. This session cuts through the hype and grounds the group in what AI is, what it isn't, and what matters most for law firm operations today.

We'll walk through how to assess organizational readiness using surveys and audits, then shift into the governance essentials: policies, risk management, ethical guidelines, and the oversight structures that make AI sustainable rather than a one-off experiment. Attendees will complete a live sentiment survey to surface real concerns and readiness signals across the group, and those results will shape the content of future sessions.

Tuesday May 5 - Session 2: Beyond the Billable: Smarter Finance with AI.     LINK TO REGISTER

Finance teams in law firms are sitting on some of the highest-value AI use cases, and most don't require building anything from scratch. This session walks through practical applications in billing, collections, forecasting, and reporting, focusing on where AI reduces manual effort and improves accuracy without compromising controls or compliance.

We'll look at real examples of how firms are using AI to catch billing errors before clients do, surface collection patterns that would take analysts weeks to find, and generate financial reporting that partners actually read.

Thursday May 21 - Session 3: Win More Work: AI for Marketing & Business Development.     LINK TO REGISTER

Law firm marketing teams are stretched thin, and AI can do more than write blog posts. This session covers the tools and strategies that help firms create better content faster, identify the right prospects, track competitive intelligence, and build campaigns grounded in data rather than instinct.

We'll look at how AI changes the workflow for RFP responses, pitch materials, and client targeting, and where the real time savings show up for lean marketing teams.

Thursday June 4 - Session 4: Workforce Reimagined: AI in Law Firm HR.     LINK TO REGISTER

HR touches every stage of the employee lifecycle, and AI is already reshaping how firms handle recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and engagement. This session covers the practical applications and the landmines, including bias, privacy, and responsible use in people-related processes.

We'll also dig into one of the most immediately useful HR applications: AI-powered policy assistants. There's a meaningful difference between a searchable policy database (where someone types keywords and hopes the right document surfaces) and an AI layer that actually reads and interprets the material. The first requires the person to know what they're looking for. The second lets someone ask "What's our parental leave policy for employees in California vs. New York?" and get a synthesized answer pulled from multiple documents. That distinction alone changes how HR teams support a distributed workforce.

Thursday June 18 - Session 5: From Systems to Strategy: IT Enabling AI.     LINK TO REGISTER
NOTE TIME CHANGE FROM 11am to NOON
IT doesn't just support AI adoption, it determines whether it works. This session focuses on the infrastructure, vendor evaluation, data security, and integration decisions that IT leaders need to get right before the rest of the firm can scale.

We'll cover how to evaluate AI vendors without getting buried in marketing claims, what "AI-ready" actually means for a firm's existing tech stack, and how to build an integration strategy that doesn't create more problems than it solves.
