The Golden Gate Chapter has teamed up with Together We Rise in support of foster children.  TWR helps children via three main programs: Sweet Cases, which provides duffle bags to children who have no means to transport their belongings, Build A Bike, which provides bikes to children who have no means to transport themselves in their new environments, and the Family Fellowship Scholarship Program, supporting foster children with education and mentorship opportunities.

The Golden Gate Chapter of ALA will be participating in the Build-A-Bike program.  We will fundraise to purchase bikes, then we will host an assembly party to put the bikes together and deliver them to a Bay Area foster care organization.  “When foster youth age out of the system, we help provide them bikes. Many youth at the aging out age are unprepared and don't have transportation, so we give them bikes so they're able to get to their jobs and school classes.”   ~TWR

Our chapter fundraising page is now live and can be found by clicking Here.  Our summer fundraising efforts will close on July 20th.  Please join us at 4:30 p.m. on August 7th, on the 8th floor deck at Perkins Coie LLP to build our bicycles and network over light hor d’oevres.

Most children and teens have a means of transportation, while most children and teens in foster care do not.  This simple gift could make an enormous difference in the lives of these individuals.  We hope you will join us in support of this excellent cause.
