Holiday Party Photos

President Annie Lathram greets member Cathy Flynn-Baksi

Tis the Season of Giving!

On December 14, the Chapter hosted its annual holiday luncheon event at the Omni Hotel in San Francisco and over 75 members and business partners attended. This was an especially wonderful and festive event as the Chapter once again participated in the annual San Francisco Firefighters Toy Drive and invited the firefighters to join us that day for lunch.  We were thrilled to provide them with donated toys from our members and business partners, as well as $1,200 in cash donations from the sale of raffle ticket and the Chapter’s 100% match.

I shared with the group that the Holiday season brings out the spirit of giving in all of us and that the Chapter has done its fair share of giving these past few months. On November 16, a team of Golden Gate Chapter members walked in the annual Light the Night event along the Embarcadero in San Francisco, raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  This is the fourth year that the Chapter has participated and the team raised over $7,000.  With the catastrophic NorCal wildfires in October, the Chapter reached out to all its members asking them to consider donating to a designated non-profit organization to help the fire victims and that the Chapter would match their donations up to a total of $2,500.   To date, our members have donated $1,125 to various non-profits in the North county area, and we are continuing our efforts.  We recently reached out to our sister chapters – East Bay and Silicon Valley – asking them to partner with us to raise more monies, and on February 10, 2018,  the Bay Area chapters will participate in a joint fundraising campaign to help Sonoma Strong.  Already several of our members have signed up for the half marathon 10K and 5K run/walk along the San Leandro marina, and each runner/walker will be reaching out to their respective Chapter members asking them to support their efforts by simply making a donation to the Red Cross or other non-profits of their choice.  The Golden Gate Chapter will continue to match donations made by its members up to a total of $2500!    We are excited about this collaborative community event with our sister chapters and we are also proud of our efforts to continue building our relationships with other ALA members across the Bay Area region.
